Questions about blackout shades
Will it be completely dark?
The fabric itself lets nothing through. The light you normally see in a "blackout" room comes in around the edges, so the install matters as much as the fabric: an outside mount that overlaps the frame, or side channels that seal the gap, is what gets a nursery genuinely dark at 7 AM in June.
What are side channels?
Slim aluminium tracks fitted down both sides of the window that the shade runs inside, blocking the light gap at the edges. They are the difference between a dark room and a truly black one — worth it for nurseries, media rooms and anyone sleeping during the day.
Does blackout help with heat and noise?
Yes to heat — a blackout shade blocks the sun before it loads the room, which noticeably cools a west-facing bedroom. For noise, a blackout cellular shade or a blackout-lined Roman does more than a plain roller because of the extra air and fabric mass.
